About Mr Kostas Papagiannopoulos
Mr Kostas Papagiannopoulos is a Senior Consultant Thoracic Surgeon internationally recognised as one of the most experienced surgeons in the management of chest wall pathology, airways and lung cancer. He is currently based in Leeds and sees patients at St James' University Hospital and private patients at Spire Leeds Hospital. He has over 25 years of experience in the management of patients with chest conditions, including conditions of the chest wall, airways, diaphragm and mediastinum. Mr Papagiannopoulos completed his primary medical qualification at the University of Crete, Greece in 1990. He later completed his MMed Thorax degree in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1997 followed by his CTH in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Athens, Greece in 2001. He has expertise in all aspects of thoracic illnesses and conditions, including: emphysema, COPD, lung cancer, oesophageal cancer and rib fractures. He offers a range of procedures and treatments to manage these conditions, including minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, thoracoscopic cervical sympathectomy, pectus repairs, laser treatment, stents, tracheoplasties and lung volume reduction. Mr Papagiannopoulos is passionate about establishing and retaining a first class service in his current clinical practices in Leeds, with his patients being held at the centre of his practice. His main drive is to develop a relationship of mutual confidence, trust and respect with his patients and their families. Alongside his clinical practice, he holds leadership positions in thoracic surgery across the Globe. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds and a Member of the Global Educational Council of J&J.
