Mr Jonathan Lucas was appointed as an orthopaedic and spinal consultant to Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals (GSST) in 1999 and became the lead clinician for spinal surgery at both GSST and Evelina London Children's Hospital in 2006. Since 2019, he has been the Head of Service for Paediatric Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgery at GSTT and the lead clinician for the Portland Scoliosis and Spinal Surgery Centre.

He received his FRCS (Orth & Tr) in 1998 after graduating from St Thomas' Hospital Medical School and London University. He completed his orthopaedic training on the South-East Thames Higher Surgical Orthopaedic Training Programme before becoming a Spinal Fellow at the Centre for Spinal Surgery, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. He also undertook a British Orthopaedic Association travelling fellowship to prominent centres in the United States.
Mr Lucas is an MBBS Examiner and a past Chairman of AO SPINE UK and the British Scoliosis Society Education Secretary. He has written extensively in the surgical literature and is the editor of a prominent surgical textbook, Aird's Companion to Surgery. He maintains a research interest in spinal surgery, predominantly in the care of paediatric spinal deformity and the prevention of complications.
