Mr Geoff Chiu

Mr Geoff Chiu is a distinguished Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon with over 20 years of invaluable experience. Mr Chiu specialises in a range of areas including wisdom teeth, oral surgery, facial deformity & reconstruction, benign salivary gland surgery, facial implants, facial pain and sleep apnea. Mr Chiu currently practises privately at leading clinics in East Lancashire. He also serves as a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the NHS for over 10 years based at East Lancashire Teaching NHS Trust and Royal Bolton Foundation Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Chiu’s academic journey reflects his commitment to excellence in the field. He holds an MSc in Surgical Science and Practice from the University of Oxford (2014) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England with a specialty in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FRCS(OMFS)) obtained in 2012. His educational foundation includes a PGCertMedEd from the University of Dundee (2011), MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2005), MB ChB in Medicine from the University of Leeds (2003), MFD from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2000), and a BDS in Dentistry from the University of Manchester (1997). With a wealth of academic achievements, Mr Chiu has cultivated a profound understanding of surgical science and practice. He is currently Clinical Director for Theatres at East Lancashire NHS Trust. Beyond his clinical duties, Mr Chiu has made significant contributions to research and academia. He represented the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as a member of the working group that published the latest 2020 Third Molar Guidelines. He serves as the chief investigator at Saving Faces, a prominent research charity, showcasing his dedication to advancing the field. He is also member of the core group that runs  Quality and Outcomes in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (QOMS) Project. Additionally, his insights have been sought as an Associate Editor for the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Mr Chiu’s commitment to education is evident through his completion of a PGCertMedEd, and he has actively participated in conferences, presenting his research findings.  He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Mr Chiu organises the regional Head and Neck reconstruction course with local skin flaps. He volunteers on the Hospital Ship, run by the charity Mercyships,  providing  surgical treatment l to the population of  West Africa who have little or no access to healthcare.  www.mercyships.org">www.mercyships.org
