About Mr Christopher Lawrence
Mr Christopher Lawrence is a fellowship-trained Shoulder & Elbow Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Chelmsford. His primary areas of expertise include both arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery, addressing conditions such as recurrent instability, impingement syndrome, rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, acromioclavicular joint problems, and shoulder joint replacement. In addition to his shoulder specialisation, Mr Lawrence is proficient in elbow surgeries, including treatments for tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and ulnar nerve release. He also performs minor hand surgeries, such as carpal tunnel decompression. Mr Lawrence's medical journey began in 2003 when he qualified as a doctor from St Barts and the London School of Medicine & Dentistry. He also holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Anatomy and Developmental Biology from University College London. Following his initial training, he completed a surgical rotation at Broomfield Hospital and began Specialist Registrar Training on the East Anglian training program in 2008. During his senior training in Cambridge, he served as Chief Resident for the Musculoskeletal Directorate and as the Cambridge Orthopaedic Club Secretary. In 2014, Mr Lawrence passed the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma & Orthopaedics) examination and received his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in 2015, along with specialist recognition by the GMC. He further honed his skills with two post-CCT Fellowships in Shoulder Surgery at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and Southampton General Hospital, focusing on advanced techniques in arthroscopic, open, and arthroplasty shoulder surgeries. Additionally, he was awarded the Watanabe Travelling Fellowship, which provided him the opportunity to learn from leading shoulder and elbow surgeons across the UK. Alongside his clinical work, Mr Lawrence is an active member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS), and the Watanabe Faculty. He also has a strong interest in medical education, holding an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. His contributions to the field include publications in peer-reviewed journals, national and international presentations on shoulder surgery research, and co-authoring a book chapter.
