About Dr Christopher Holroyd
I am a consultant rhuematolgoist at University Hospital Southampton, where I am also Clinical Lead for Rheumatology and biological therapies lead for rheumatology.
I graduated from the University of Southampton in 2000. Following this, my postgraduate rheumatology training was completed in the Wessex region, with accreditation in both rheumatology and general (internal) medicine in 2010. During my training, I completed a clinical research fellowship at the Medical Research Council, Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit, University of Southampton where I developed his research interests investigating the epidemiology of bone disease; I was awarded a PhD for my research in epidemiology in 2019.
i was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist at University Hospital Southampton in 2012 and am currently the rheumatology departmental clinical lead for Rheumatology as well as the lead consultant for the biological therapies service for patients with inflammatory arthritis.
I also provide a visiting rheumatology service in Guernsey on a monthly basis.
I have a particular interest in inflammatory rheumatic disease, IBD-associated arthritis, biological therapies and osteoporosis; however my practice embraces all aspects of rheumatology including spinal pain, connective tissue disease, soft tissue rheumatism and fibromyalgia. I also have expertise in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound for the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis.
I hae received numerous awards, including the British Society of Rheumatology Best Practice award in 2013 and was selected to represent rheumatology at the House of Lords Innovation within the NHS event. I have also received awards from the National Osteoporosis Society and the International Osteoporosis Federation for his research into bone disease.
I continue to maintain a keen research interest and am principal investigator on several international clinical trials
