About
Christof Kastner is a Consultant Urologist based at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Nuffield Hospital and GenesisCare in Cambridge and King Edward VII Hospital in London. His specialist training took place in London.
Christof Kastner is an internationally recognised expert in assessment and treatment of benign and cancerous prostatic disease. With his colleagues in radiology, lead by Prof Tristan Barrett, he introduced MRI fusion technology to the UK and has been senior author of multiple publications, which have changed the approach to prostate cancer assessment. Their published results are amongst the top in the world.
The accuracy and comfort of his assessment with MRI Fusion Vector prostate biopsies allows Christof to counsel his patients with high confidence and inform about all treatment options, like radiation, surgery, surveillance and brachytherapy for prostate cancer as well as spacer insertion.
As part of the Prostate Cancer team offering the above treatments, Christof provides:
MRI Fusion Vector prostate biopsies under local anaesthesia - this is a new technological development using electromagnetic needle tracking to target the abnormal areas highlighted by the prostate MRI. The technology allows a minimally invasive approach providing comfort and accuracy with very little side-effects.
MRI target-boost Brachytherapy for prostate cancer - Christof has experience in more than 1,000 cases of brachytherapy. Christof can offer a high precision insertion of radioactive seeds with minimal side-effects uasig his expertise from MRI- based diagnostics. This technique also allows application of Focal treatment and combination with radiotherapy in suitable patients.
Spacer gel injection – This procedure temporarily increases the distance between prostate and bowel wall and thereby minimises the side-effects of prostate Radiotherapy. It is minimally invasive, has little side-effects and can be done under local and general anaesthesia.
For patients with symptoms suggesting obstructive enlargement of the prostate (LUTS / BPH) Mr Kastner offers Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate (HoLEP) – he has performed more than 1,000 HoLEPs since 2007. Based on the published high-level evidence for HoLEP, in particular for durability, and his experience with technologies throughout his career, Mr Kastner strongly advises that this procedure is well superior to any other technique.
Mr. Kastner is an expert in novel techniques for urology and uro-oncology, providing excellent outcomes for his patients.
