Mr Carlos Pavesio has been an eye specialist for over 35 years, and a full-time practicing NHS Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital since 1995. His main areas of interest are retina and inflammatory eye diseases, which encompasses uveitis, scleritis and orbital inflammation, all of which can be caused by infections and by autoimmune problems. Mr Pavesio provides treatment and advice for patients with retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, vascular occlusions and macular degeneration and also have large experience in general ophthalmology and give advice on common problems, such as dry eyes, blepharitis and allergic conjunctivitis.

During his time at Moorfields, Dr Pavesio has also held other posts such as Chairman of the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee for many years, Training Director for Medical Retina from 1995 to 1999, Director of the Medical Retina Department from 2008 to 2016, and is currently Chairman of Infections Control Committee and Director of the Fellowship Programme at Moorfields and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at UCL.

Dr Pavesio focuses his research on finding better treatment strategies for the management of inflammatory diseases, and has been the principal investigator of several clinical trials resulting in the approval of new treatment options. He has focused my career in trying to find better ways of treating his patients, preserving their vision and improving their quality of life.
