Mr Brian Rooney graduated medicine from University of Glasgow in 1993. He undertook his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery in Tayside and Glasgow. Following that, he completed a specialist knee fellowship in a leading European knee surgery clinic in Grenoble in the French Alps, where the use of computer navigation in knee surgery was pioneered.
He was appointed as a Consultant in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at the Western Infirmary in Glasgow in 2005. He moved to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in 2015, where he has a practice as one of the specialist knee surgeons. Since his appointment, he has been involved in the advancement of computer navigation techniques for knee replacement surgery and the development of unicompartmental knee replacements for arthritis of the knee.
Mr Rooney specialises in all aspects of knee surgery, including arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction following sports injuries or trauma, surgery for patellar instability to treatments for arthritis including osteotomy, unicompartmental and total knee replacement.
