Mr McLaren specialises in thyroid and parathyroid surgery and was the first surgeon in the UK to perform minimally invasive day case thyroid surgery. The pioneering procedure has had outstanding results and low complication rates and his success has seen him lecture internationally, gaining an enviable reputation in his field.

He began his career at the prestigious University of Oxford with a Medical Degree before completing an extensive training scheme in Nottingham, Leicester and Northampton and becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1994. He was a Clinical Lecturer in Oxford before being appointed as Consultant in 2004 Mr McLaren is heavily involved in medical education and research, sharing his expertise and knowledge with other healthcare professionals and has published patient's guides to common endocrine conditions. He is a member of the British Association of Surgical Oncology, The British Hernia Society and the British Association of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgeons.
