About

Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Amer Khan specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery for soft tissue knee and shoulder surgery as well as total knee and shoulder replacement. He aims to avoid surgery where possible and has expertise in ACL reconstruction, novel ACL repair, meniscal and cartilage preservation and replacement, and all ligament surgery.
Mr Khan gained his medical qualifications in 1994 from King's College Medical School after initially gaining first-class honours in physiology and exercise medicine. He went on to train in orthopaedics and became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Tr&Orth) in 2007. Mr Khan has undertaken fellowship training in both shoulder surgery (Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital) and knee surgery (Guy's and St Thomas'). He was also awarded the British Orthopaedic Association European Travelling Fellowship, which enabled him to train in Europe and the USA under renowned specialists in arthroscopic soft tissue knee and shoulder surgery. In 2010, Mr Khan joined Homerton University Hospital as the clinical lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics and the Joint Clinical Lead for Sports and Exercise Medicine. During the London 2012 Olympics, he was selected to be a part of the knee team and performed surgery on a number of athletes who were treated at Homerton (the official Olympic Games Hospital). He continues to treat professional athletes from all disciplines today.
Mr Khan has a passion for medical education and regularly delivers lectures on shoulder and knee surgery, both nationally and internationally.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
