Dr Mohamed Shanavas is a clinical haematologist. Dr Shanavas graduated in medicine from Calicut Medical College India. Dr Shanavas completed physician training in Adelaide in 2009 and advanced training in haematology in 2012. From 2012 to 2014, Dr Shanavas undertook clinical and research fellowship training in acute leukaemia and bone marrow transplantation at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and University of Toronto, Canada.
After the fellowship, Dr Shanavas continued as an affiliated staff physician until returning to Australia in December 2015. After returning to Australia, Dr Shanavas joined Rockhampton Hospital as a staff physician with an affiliation with the University of Queensland as Senior Lecturer. Dr Shanavas moved to Brisbane after accepting the role of staff haematologist. Dr Shanavas provides a wide range of haematology services, including chemotherapy for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, autologous bone marrow transplantation and therapeutic apheresis. Dr Shanavas is a Principal Investigator and co-investigator for several clinical trials.
Dr Shanavas maintains a keen interest in research. Dr Shanavas is currently enrolled in the University of Queensland MPhil translational research program for clinician scientists. Dr Shanavas recently presented preliminary findings in immune repertoire in aggressive lymphoma at the American Society of Haematology conference in Atlanta, United States, as an oral presentation. Dr Shanavas is an active member of the Australasian Leukaemia Lymphoma Group's CMP-MPN subgroup.
