About
Dr Mithun Varghese is a highly experienced Interventional Cardiologist and Director of Windsor Heart, with advanced expertise in complex coronary interventions, structural heart disease, and preventive cardiology. He is recognised for his specialist focus on precision angioplasty using intracoronary imaging to optimise long-term outcomes in coronary artery disease.
Dr Varghese completed his Basic Physician Training followed by specialist Cardiology training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, one of the world’s leading tertiary cardiac centres. He then undertook an advanced, integrated Coronary and Structural Interventional Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he gained extensive expertise in complex coronary and structural procedures, including rotablation angioplasty, LVAD-assisted interventions, endomyocardial biopsy, and transcatheter aortic and mitral valve interventions. During this time, he contributed to pioneering research on intravascular brachytherapy for coronary restenosis, widely cited in international cardiology literature.
In 2015, Dr Varghese was awarded Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology in recognition of his clinical and academic contributions to cardiovascular medicine. He later relocated to Australia, where he completed Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
He has previously held an academic appointment as Professor of Cardiology at Christian Medical College Vellore and currently serves as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Lyell McEwin Hospital. He also provides private interventional cardiology services at Calvary Adelaide Hospital and Western Hospital.
Dr Varghese’s clinical interests include coronary artery disease, valvular and adult congenital heart disease, chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction, and the management of complex lipid disorders. He also has a strong interest in preventive cardiology, focusing on reducing long-term cardiovascular risk through evidence-based, patient-centred care.
Alongside his clinical practice, he is actively involved in teaching as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide.
