Melanie Albrecht is a Specialist Hand Therapist and has been a qualified Occupational Therapist for over 20 years having qualified in 1995. She has focused on Hand Therapy for the past eight years and is a full member of The British Association of Hand Therapists.

Melanie makes use of her wide range of hand therapy that she has gained through the time she has spent in several hospitals in the South East of England. In these hospitals, she worked with acute and chronic hand and upper limb conditions and has experience within a number of medical fields including trauma and orthopaedics, plastics (including tendon and nerve repairs and elective reconstructive surgery), paediatrics, rheumatology and neurological conditions. Melanie has built up extensive skills in the bespoke fabrication of static, static progressive and dynamic splints and the provision of hand based supports.

Melanie has worked at two of the major London teaching Hospitals (St Thomas' and University College London Hospital). She is also a Lead Hand Therapist in a multi-disciplinary Musculoskeletal Outpatient Service contracted on behalf of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where she is responsible for the differential diagnosis of patients and the signposting on for Consultant review or for other services such as pain management/acupuncture.

Melanie is always keen to focus on the preventative and rehabilitative strategies for Hand Therapy clients using evidence-based methods to develop tailored care plans for her patients. She really values a client-centred and personal approach to treatment. Melanie brings an emormous amount of enthusiasm to her work and provides the support and necessary motivation to her patients so that they too can develop their own self-maintenance programs.

Melanie has a particular passion for helping to solve hand conditions that are work-related. She also offers advice on preventative strategies for arthritic hand pain and stiffness. She is skilled in the use of ultrasound as a complement to the healing and pain management process.
