He then pursued two ophthalmology fellowships, the first with the Fred Hollows Foundation in remote Australia, Fiji, and Vanuatu, and the second at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust in the United Kingdom. Following these fellowships, he completed additional training in oculoplastics and glaucoma at the King’s College Hospital in London.
Dr. Karpa is actively involved in basic science and clinical research, with numerous international peer-reviewed publications covering a range of topics, including synthetic, organic, and molecular recognition chemistry, as well as sensory impairment and eye disease. He earned a PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney for his work on The Blue Mountains Eye Study, which focused on the impacts of visual and sensory impairments on older individuals.
Dr Karpa is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).
