He further qualified with FRCS from the Royal Colleges in Glasgow , MRCS from from the Royal Colleges in Glasgow and Edinburgh , and completed a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery - Bariatrics & Metabolic Surgery from IAGES in New Delhi.
Dr. Katrak is a member of several prestigious surgical societies, including the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery, IAGES, the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS) in New Delhi, the Indian Society of Gastroenterologist – Middle East, the Asia Pacific Hernia Society, and the AMASI Emirates Committee.
At NMC, where he has worked for the last 22 years, Dr. Katrak has developed rich experience in major abdominal surgeries and minimally invasive daycare procedures, including laparoscopic surgery for hernias, gallbladder, anorectal conditions, pilonidal disease, varicose veins, and breast surgeries. He completed a Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi under Padmashree Dr. Pradeep Chowbey and has also trained in haemorrhoidal procedures in Italy and Austria, Laser Surgery In Austria
Before joining NMC Specialty Hospital in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Katrak worked at BLY Nair Hospital in Mumbai, a large multi-disciplinary teaching hospital, where he managed a wide range of hepatobiliary and colorectal surgeries and handled numerous trauma cases as a Casualty Medical Officer.
With a keen interest in hernia surgery, Dr. Katrak has attended multiple workshops in advanced laparoscopic and open hernia surgery, including sessions in Belgium, Mumbai, and Poland. He has also led workshops in laparoscopic ventral hernia repair at the University of Sharjah and has been a key organiser at the annual International Hernia Conferences in Abu Dhabi. His special interests include laparoscopic hernia repair (TEP and ventral), component separation for complex hernias, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, minimally invasive varicose vein surgery, and various advanced techniques for treating haemorrhoids, anal fistulas, and pilonidal sinuses.
Dr. Katrak is an active presenter and faculty member at both international and local surgical conferences, and he serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery
