About Mr Matthew Makin
Over the past six years Matt has worked as Medical Director at two of the largest and most challenged Health Organisations in England and Wales. Prior to this he has held National leadership roles in Neurology, Neurosciences and Cancer and had been involved in development of Health Policy. Matt qualified in 1991, training in Palliative Care Medicine at Liverpool and Birmingham and was later appointed to his first Consultant Post in 2001. He worked at the Pain Relief Foundation in the 1990s with Dr Jack Morley developing treatment protocols for the analgesic use of Methadone and is passionate about addressing inequalities in health, quality improvement and the role of clinical leadership in improving health systems. He currently practices as a Consultant in Palliative Medicine in North Manchester and is the Executive Medical Director of the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Matt is also an Honorary Professor of Health and Behavioural Sciences at Bangor University.
