About
Mr Marius Calciu is a well experienced Consultant Knee Surgeon at Spire Cardiff Hospital with over 12 years of experience. He has also been serving as a Consultant Knee Surgeon at the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board since 2016.
Mr Calciu completed his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila, Romania in 2003. Throughout his training, he devoted his focus to developing comprehensive knowledge and refined surgical skills involved in diagnosing and treating knee pathology. In 2008 he completed his Master’s degree in Biomaterials at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in Romania. He received his certification of completion of training in trauma and orthopaedics in 2010 and later completed his fellowship with the British Orthopaedics Association (BAO) at Llandough Hospital in 2016. Following the completion of his BOA fellowship, he served as a Locum Consultant Knee Surgeon and currently holds a substantial Consultant position at Llandough Hospital and the University Hospital of Wales.
In his current clinical practice, Mr Calciu offers a tailored approach, addressing each patient's specific knee problems, such as sports-related injuries and degenerative knee pathology. He specialises in a wide range of knee surgeries, including biological knee surgery (such as tibial and femoral knee osteotomy, ligament reconstruction, meniscal surgery, and cartilage restoration) in selected cases, as well as knee arthroplasty (partial and total knee replacement) for advanced arthritis, joint preservation surgery and knee arthroscopy.
Throughout his career, Mr Calciu has successfully performed over 820 partial and total knee replacements, more than 400 knee arthroscopic procedures (including meniscectomy, meniscus repair, and ACL reconstruction), and 76 osteotomies around the knee (such as high tibial osteotomy, distal femoral osteotomy, and tibial tubercle transfer). Mr Calciu's work is validated by a National Joint Registry feedback, confirming a commendable five-year revision rate of 0.66% for partial and total knee replacements, showcasing his commitment to delivering high-quality surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
