Dr De Silva completed a Bachelor of Science at Monash University, majoring in anatomy, physiology, and human pathology, before undertaking her medical degree at the University of Melbourne. She gained broad early clinical experience as a junior doctor in paediatrics and general medicine, including work in remote communities in the Northern Territory.
She completed specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Mercy Hospital for Women and holds a Master of Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales. She has undertaken additional training in high-risk pregnancy, infertility, vulval dermatology, and laparoscopy. Her clinical practice includes the assessment and management of a wide range of obstetric and gynaecological conditions.
Dr De Silva completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne, focusing on maternal mortality, morbidity, and stillbirth in the Asia-Pacific region, including work in the Solomon Islands. She is a Senior Research Fellow at Mercy Perinatal and continues her research in perinatal epidemiology, with a focus on maternal and neonatal outcomes. She also holds an academic position as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne. She is currently the site lead for medical students at the Mercy Hospital for Women and is passionate about education. She is also passionate about patient education, hosting the Mercy Perinatal podcast, "Prepare", since 2022, aiming to provide evidence-based patient education about all aspects of preparing for pregnancy, birth and parenthood.
Her work includes involvement in global health and research initiatives, with clinical and volunteer experience in Indigenous communities in Australia as well as in Sri Lanka, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Solomon Islands. She has contributed to international research, education, and policy work in women’s health.
Dr De Silva currently practises publicly at the Mercy Hospital for Women and privately at Specialist 145 in Fitzroy, and operates and delivers at St Vincent’s Hospital for Women and Epworth Freemasons.
