About

Mr Forster is a Consultant Urological Surgeon working at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. He is clinical lead at Wexham Park Hospital. He is a specialist in kidney stones, benign prostate enlargement and urine problems.

He uses a patient-centred approach to understand patients' problems and concerns before helping them to make sensible decisions to improve their symptoms.

Mr Forster qualified with a distinction from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School at King's College London in 2010. He also achieved a 1st class honours degree in Health Psychology. He completed a prestigious elective placement at the Mayo Clinic in America and led one of the first studies highlighting the use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in surgical patients.

He completed his Foundation and Core Surgical training in Yorkshire before moving back to London for his specialist Urology training. He completed his FRCS Urology in 2019 before completing his training in 2021. He worked in the tertiary stone units at Royal Free Hospital and Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust. During this time he led a number of projects and publications improving the care of patients with kidney stones, stents and those with obstructed kidneys.

During his training he was the BAUS Section of Trainees Chairman from 2018-2020, a national role representing colleagues, improving training standards and leading national projects. He designed and led a fundraising and educational initiative with The Urology Foundation, a national charity.

Mr Forster is passionate about education and is a GMC accredited trainer. He has an MSc in medical education and is the Frimley Health Director of Undergraduate Medical Education. In 2023 he was awarded a prize as the best Undergraduate teacher. He supervises a number of trainees in his department.

Since his Consultant appointment in 2021 Mr Forster has led several service improvements benefitting patients with kidney stones, urine symptoms and testicular pain. This has included a transformation and modernisation in the assessment, treatment and management of these patients. He introduced new digital cameras, the latest laser technology, suction access sheaths and stents to give the patient better results, with a quicker recovery and less stent symptoms. He continues to review and adopt the latest guidelines, research and technology to improve the care his patients get.

Mr Forster is a passionate advocate for providing the best patient experience and has led several patient safety initiatives which ensure patients get excellent care. He works closely with colleagues in radiology, anaesthetics and medical specialties to ensure that patients get complete and safe care. He often provides second opinions for patients who feel they have not had their urology symptoms understood or investigated. He takes the time to listen and assess older patients with urine problems to ensure they are treated with dignity and get the appropriate treatment safely.

In recognition of his leadership and service improvement he received Clinical Excellence Awards in 2023 and 2024 before being appointed as Wexham Park Urology Clinical Lead and Frimley Health Cross-site deputy lead in 2024.

He manages a range of conditions including:

• Stones- kidney, ureter, bladder (prevention and treatment with laser or shockwave therapy)

• Urinary tract obstruction: management of stents

• Prostate enlargement (medical and surgical management)

• Blood in the urine - haematuria
