About
Every person I meet has their own experiences, their own struggles and their own strengths. Many clients I work with share one thing in common: they struggle to be kind to themselves. I work from the basis that helping people develop self-kindness will guide them towards ways to manage their suffering. The starting point for developing this kindness is a sense of safety. Whether your appointment is at the clinic in York, or online, I will aim to create a space where you feel safe. This might be the safety to talk confidentially about aspects of your life that you have kept hidden, the safety to cry, to get angry, or even to laugh. I will help you open up to your thoughts and feelings in a safe way and guide you in making the changes you want.
I will spend time talking with you to understand your difficulties and to help you identify the roots of your problem and identify what you want to change in your life. In doing so we can find a way to work together to help you to reach your goals. I have worked with issues surrounding, anxiety, depression, trauma (including PTSD), low self esteem, stress, emotional management difficulties, phobias, OCD, relationship difficulties, and grief.
I understand that coming to therapy may cause worry and uncertainty. I have experienced the role of the client, I have addressed by own traumas making me stronger in so many ways. I will be compassionate and non judgemental, giving you the safety to be open about your concerns.
The work I offer is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I have worked with people with mental health issues, personality disorders, and individuals who have no diagnosis and who need support and guidance to live their life they way they want.
