About
Leyla Metin is a sessional psychotherapist at Nightingale Hospital with over two decades of experience supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. Her clinical focus includes depression, anxiety, PTSD, postnatal depression, bereavement, eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and OSFED, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), personality disorders, interpersonal difficulties, bipolar disorder, and psychosexual concerns.
Trained in both individual and group psychotherapy, Leyla draws on a deeply relational and analytic approach that is grounded in Gestalt psychotherapy. Her work emphasises the importance of present-moment awareness-helping clients understand how past experiences continue to shape current feelings, thoughts, and physical responses. By bringing clarity to emerging patterns and emotional dynamics, Leyla supports clients in developing new, more helpful ways of relating to themselves and others.
Leyla has worked across a variety of therapeutic settings since 2001, including the NHS, private practice, volunteer organisations, and her current role at Nightingale Hospital. In her NHS hospital work over a 10-year period, she provided supervision and delivered both group and one-to-one therapy for clients with long-term health conditions, complex trauma, mood disorders, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders.
Her integrative therapeutic approach draws from Gestalt therapy, existential and humanistic philosophy, psychoanalysis, and body-focused techniques. This holistic method encourages mind-body integration and fosters emotional insight, self-awareness, and healing. In addition to Gestalt-based work, Leyla also utilises cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), solution-focused brief therapy, family therapy, interpersonal therapy (IPT), and mindfulness-based stress reduction.
Leyla holds an MA in Gestalt Psychotherapy, a Psychotherapy Practitioner Diploma in Individual and Group Psychotherapy, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Gestalt Therapy Theory Studies. She has also completed specialist training in humanistic counselling, hypnotherapy, CAT, and mindfulness. She offers therapy in both English and Turkish.
