Dr Lakshmi Arumugam Ratnam is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer, and serves as Head of the Department of Radiology at St George’s Hospital. She undertakes a broad range of vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures alongside diagnostic imaging. Her principal clinical interests include lymphatic and vascular malformations, paediatric interventional radiology, uterine artery and pelvic vein embolisation, and salivary gland interventions.
Dr Ratnam qualified in medicine from the University of Sheffield in 1998. She completed specialist radiology training at St George’s Hospital, followed by subspecialty training in interventional radiology at St George’s and a further advanced fellowship year at Charles Gairdner Hospital. She was appointed Consultant Radiologist at St George’s Hospital in April 2009 and holds the European Board of Interventional Radiology certification.
She is an active member of the St George’s LAVA (Lymphatic and ArterioVenous Anomaly) multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with dermatology, genetics, and plastic surgery colleagues. Dr Ratnam is also involved in the development of an MR lymphangiography service at St George’s in partnership with the Lymphatic Research team.
Her professional roles include Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (2020), Editorial Board member for Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology – Endovascular, Faculty member for the London School of Radiology, and Interventional Radiology Subcommittee member for the European Congress of Radiology.
