Ms Laila Cunin is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH). She also sees private patients at Chelsfield Park Hospital.

She graduated from Imperial College London in 2011 and completed her Higher Surgical Training in the South East of England (Kent, Surrey and Sussex region). Following this, she undertook a specialist fellowship at University College London Hospital, where she developed advanced expertise in surgery for inflammatory bowel disease, including Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease, as well as complex abdominal wall reconstruction for incisional hernias.

Ms Cunin has a particular interest in benign proctology, managing conditions such as anal fistulae, haemorrhoids and anal pain. She is actively involved in clinical research and serves as a principal investigator for national colonic studies at her site, with publications in peer-reviewed journals. She has also recently been appointed as Primary Care Liaison for PRUH and South sites, working to strengthen collaboration between primary care and hospital services to improve patient pathways and outcomes.

Committed to education and professional development, Ms Cunin is an Advanced Trauma and Life Support instructor and has completed the Emerging Leaders Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She serves as faculty on Basic Surgical Skills and Advanced Trauma and Life Support courses and is actively involved in surgical training. Known for her patient-focused approach, she is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care while supporting the next generation of surgeons.
