About Prof Keir Edward Lewis
Professor Keir Lewis is a highly respected Consultant in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine, known for his compassionate, patient-centred care. Based in South and West Wales, he leads respiratory services across multiple NHS hospitals and also sees private patients at clinics including Werndale Hospital. Patients travel from across Wales to see him for his expertise in conditions such as chronic cough, breathlessness, asthma, COPD, sleep apnoea, and respiratory failure. He has attracted over £27M in grant and has co-authored over 200 papers, 4 textbooks and natioal guidelines, he ahs advised international respirtaory organisations ans Wales and UK Governements. With over two decades of experience and a degree in Psychology as well as Medicine, Professor Lewis is recognised for his gentle, thoughtful approach particularly valued by patients dealing with anxiety or complex breathing problems. He is frequently consulted for difficult cases and is a trusted authority in respiratory care. As the founder of several award-winning services, he works closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver advanced treatment options, often beyond standard guidelines. His leadership has helped develop innovative services for pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation, home monitoring and home-based ventilation. Outside the clinic, Professor Lewis plays an active role in education, mentoring, and community health initiatives. He co-founded the Wales Orphan and Rare Lung Disease Charity and is a Trustee / Non-Exec Diretcor for other charities. He regularly collaborates with national and international experts to improve research leading to better care.
