About Mr John Saunders
Mr John Saunders is a Consultant Upper GI and General Surgeon, based in Manchester. His NHS practice is at Salford Royal Hospital, which is a University Teaching Hospital. Here he provides the regional specialist service for Complex Upper GI, Oesophago-Gastric Cancer and Bariatric Surgery. John specialises in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery for the treatment of conditions affecting the upper gastrointestinal tract. As well as performing weight loss (bariatric) surgery, he treats benign disorders such as gall stones, acid reflux, hiatus hernia, achalasia and those with oesophagogastric cancer. Having completed his medical degree at Nottingham University, John undertook specialist surgical training in the East Midlands at the Trent Oesophago-Gastric Unit and the East Midlands Bariatric and Metabolic Institute. He subsequently completed a fellowship at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in advanced cancer, bariatric and benign upper GI surgery, before taking up his consultant post in Manchester. John has a PhD in the field of oesophago-gastric cancer and is an accomplished academic. He has won a number of prizes throughout his career including the Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellowship, The Leonardo Da Vinci Prize and The Moynihan Medal. https://www.john-saunders.com
