Joachim Felderhoff studierte an der orthopädischen Universitätsklinik der FU Berlin im Oskar-Helene-Heim. Später übernahm er hier das Team für Hand- und Replantationschirurgie.
Sein fachlicher Schwerpunkt lag stets in der Handchirurgie, dazu sammelte er Erfahrung an der renommierten Klinik für Handchirurgie in Bad Neustadt/Saale unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. U. Lanz. Dr. Felderhoff war wesentlich an der Entwicklung des künstlichen Gelenkersatzes der Finger- und Handgelenke beteiligt und gilt international als Spezialist.
