He holds a BSc in Physiotherapy and an MSc in Sports Medicine from Trinity College Dublin, where he also later completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Innovation with distinction. His career has combined private clinical practice with extensive involvement in professional and elite sport, giving him broad expertise in injury prevention, rehabilitation, fitness training, athletics, strength and conditioning, rugby, and Gaelic games.
Since 2003, James has run private physiotherapy practice at Old Belvedere Physiotherapy Clinic, based at Old Belvedere RFC in Donnybrook, Dublin. He also works in private practice at Laya Health & Wellbeing Clinic, supporting the urgent care service at Cherrywood Medical Centre since 2018. Alongside his private practice work, he has held a number of prominent sports physiotherapy roles, including serving as physiotherapist for the Dublin Senior Football team for almost two decades, National Team Physiotherapist with the Irish Rugby Football Union from 2012 to 2017, and Senior Team Physiotherapist for Leinster Rugby between 2004 and 2012.
Earlier in his career, James also worked in clinical physiotherapy roles at Beaumont Hospital and developed his professional foundation through extensive academic and practical training.
