About
Dr Indrani Bhattacharya is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in the treatment of breast cancer. She studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2008, before completing foundation training in Scotland and Core Medical Training at Barts Health Trust. Her specialist training in Clinical Oncology took place in London, across University College London Hospitals, Barts, and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. During this time, she undertook a Cancer Research UK–funded Clinical Trials Fellowship and PhD at the Institute of Cancer Research, focusing on national breast radiotherapy trials.
Appointed as a consultant in 2020, Dr Bhattacharya leads breast radiotherapy in Cambridge, treating patients with both early and advanced breast cancer using systemic and radiation therapies. She is principal investigator on multiple clinical trials, chief investigator of the CASCARA study, and a contributor to the Lancet Breast Cancer Commission. She also serves on trial management groups for several landmark breast radiotherapy studies.
Committed to advancing patient care, Dr Bhattacharya prioritises therapies that balance effectiveness with minimising side-effects, supporting patients in making informed treatment choices. Alongside her clinical and research work, she is active in education, guideline development, and is an examiner.
