About Dr Ikram Nizam

Dr Ikram Nizam is a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. He has over 15 years of surgical experience working in both the UK and in Australia. He currently practices at his clinic Ozorthopaedics in Malvern as well as the following hospitals: • Cabrini Private Hospital • Epworth Eastern Hospital and Epworth Richmond Hospital • Knox Private Hospital • Mulgrave Private Hospital He completed his primary medical qualification at the University of Leicester, UK in 1996 and became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons UK. He completed his basic surgical training in centres across England, including in Oxford, London and Leicester. Before moving to Australia, Dr Nizam practiced at a leading Orthopaedic Hospital in London where he worked with the highly acclaimed Miss Sarah K Muirhead-Allwood. He moved to Australia and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012 and an Orthopaedic Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He also completed advanced orthopaedic training in Sydney and a Master's degree at the University of New South Wales. Dr Nizam is actively involved in the research and assessment of patient outcomes, ensuring that he continues to better his knowledge of orthopaedics and stay up to date with the latest advancements in technology. Dr Nizam has expertise in all areas of hip and knee surgery, as well as several years of experience in the treatment of sports injuries and fractures (both in adults and children). He treats a wide range of hip & knee conditions and injuries, including: arthritis (including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis), bursitis, knee ligament injury, PCL injury and ACL injury. Through his research, he developed a soft tissue sparing surgical approach named Bikini Hip Replacement Surgery and designed special instruments required for the surgery. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Nizam is a Senior Lecturer at the University of New England and a Faculty Member of the Anatomy Committee of the Surgical Sciences Examination Department of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Nizam also holds memberships with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the British Orthopaedic Association.
