About Mr Ian Ambrose
Mr Ian Ambrose is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a subspecialist interest in glaucoma, cataract surgery and general ophthalmology. He is the Glaucoma Lead Consultant for Hampshire Hospitals and delivers his NHS glaucoma service at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. Mr Ambrose read medicine at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 2009, and completed subspecialist training in ophthalmology in the Wessex region. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the United Kingdom and Eire Glaucoma Society. His clinical practice focuses on the medical and surgical management of glaucoma and cataract, alongside the assessment of general ophthalmic conditions. He has experience with a wide range of glaucoma procedures, including trabeculectomy, aqueous shunt devices and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques such as iStent and OMNI, often undertaken in conjunction with cataract surgery. He also maintains an interest in intraocular lens selection and cataract surgery for complex cases. Previously, Mr Ambrose established a virtual glaucoma service during a consultant appointment at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals, designed to improve access and streamline follow-up care. He is actively involved in training ophthalmology trainees in both cataract and glaucoma surgery.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
