He was previously lead psychiatrist at the King’s College Hospital Cancer Psychological Care Team and led the Leukaemia UK Mind and Body Programme.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Shields is actively involved in mental health education and training, overseeing the delivery of mental health education and training programs across the UK and internationally.

Dr. Shields is an accredited Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully (CALM) therapist and a founding member of the London CALM supervision group. He has expertise in psychodynamic therapy and Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), providing a holistic and collaborative approach to patient care.

Dr Shields uses a combination of psychological approaches, medication, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in his practice.

Furthermore, Dr. Shields offers assessment and treatment for insomnia, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi), as part of his comprehensive approach to mental health care.
