About Dr Georgios Basdanis
Dr Georgios Basdanis is a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at St Thomas' Hospital and Guy's Cancer Centre in London. He works at Dimbleby Cancer Care as a specialist cancer psychiatrist where he supports patients throughout their cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has detailed knowledge of the overlap between mental health and cancer care, including managing the side effects of oncology medications. In his private practice, Dr Basdanis has extensive experience of working with patients from demanding professional backgrounds, including hedge funds, private equity, banking and corporate law. This has given him a strong understanding of the unique stressors, long work hours, and performance pressures which these patients face. Dr Basdanis has specialist knowledge of the assessment and management of a wide array of mental health conditions, including adjustment disorders, mood disorders and psychosis. He has extensive experience of working with people with mental health difficulties in the context of chronic or severe physical health problems. Dr Basdanis favours a collaborative, person-centred approach while working with his patients, creating focused and comprehensive treatment plans. He believes in empowering patients to be actively involved in their care, and he understands that seeking mental health support can be difficult, so he engages with his patients empathetically and sensitively. After graduating from medical school at the University of Thessaly in Greece, Dr Basdanis completed his psychiatry training at the Maudsley, Royal Bethlem and St Thomas' hospitals in London, and the Institute of Psychiatry. He is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry, with a sub-specialist endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry. Dr Basdanis is a recognised medical educator. He serves as a GMC-recognised trainer and provides education and supervision for medical students and doctors. He has a particular interest in issues around sexuality and delivers teaching on LGBTQ+ healthcare. Dr Basdanis can offer consultations in English and Greek.
