Originally trained as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, he has had an extensive career managing high-risk pregnancies and practising general gynaecology before dedicating himself exclusively to reproductive medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and holds the prestigious Certificate of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI), awarded by the Australian and New Zealand Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The CREI is the highest qualification in fertility medicine in Australia and New Zealand and is held by fewer than 100 specialists, reflecting extensive subspecialty training and long-standing dedication to patient care. In addition, Dr Lok completed a PhD in Feto-Maternal Medicine.
Dr Lok’s expertise spans all aspects of assisted reproduction, including IVF, recurrent miscarriage, recurrent IVF failure, fertility preservation and egg freezing, pre-implantation genetic testing, and advanced reproductive and microsurgery for conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and ovulatory disorders. He is also recognised for his expertise in male fertility assessment and treatment, including performing micro-TESE (microsurgical testicular sperm extraction) for men with severe male factor infertility. In 2008, he cared for the first patient in Australia to have a baby conceived using egg freezing (vitrification) and IVF.
