Dr Shah has over 25 years of experiance in clinical haematology. She has expertise in all aspects of benign haematology including anaemia, thrombosis and immune related disorders, iron overload and iron deficicency, mixed deficiencies and a specialist interest in haaemoglobinopathies and anaemias. She worked at the Whittington Hospital for over 20 years and more recently at NHS Blood and Transplant as the medical director for transfusion. She was awarded the Medal of the British Empire for her services to thalassaemia and sickle cell disorders in 2023.
Dr Shah is also actively involved in clinical trials in thalassaemia and sickle cell disease. She has been a Chief Investigator and Primary investigator for a number of clinical trials in both disorders. She is currently on the safety monitoring committees for several trials into new theraputics for sickle cell disease and thalassaemia. She has also written book chapters and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Shah graduated from the University of Punjab in 1994 with an MBBS degree. She became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997 and a Member of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2001. She completed a Doctorate of Medicine in 2008 at University College London.
