About
Dr Lunan graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2001 and, after completing her basic surgical training, spent time working in Australia before returning to Scotland to complete her GP training. She worked as a GP partner for several years before specialising in Sport and Exercise Medicine, gaining entry to the specialist register via CESR. Her experience as a GP enables her to take a holistic and patient-centred approach to consultations and treatment plans.
Dr Lunan has significant experience working with a wide range of sports, including golf, rugby, football, athletics, swimming, triathlon, cycling, and tennis. She currently serves as a contract sports doctor at the Scottish Institute of Sport and recently resumed her role as the National Team doctor for Scottish Women’s Football. She also contributes to the SFA Performance advisory group. Dr Lunan has been involved in international sporting events, including working as a Team GB medical officer at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and as part of Team Scotland’s medical staff at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Lunan is committed to education and teaching. She has been an educational supervisor for several years and is currently an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. She also teaches for the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine and the University of Edinburgh. Dr Lunan delivers training on Sport Promote, the Level three pitch side emergency care course, both in Scotland and internationally. Her passion for physical activity advocacy led her to serve as Chair of Movement for Health for two years, promoting activity among individuals with long-term conditions.
Dr Lunan has a keen interest in acute and chronic sports injuries, musculoskeletal health, female athlete health, bone stress injuries, physical activity prescription, endurance medicine, and joint injections. She is a member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) and the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (FSEM).
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
