Dr Vishal C. Patel

Dr. Vishal Patel is a Consultant Hepatologist and Endoscopist with experience in all aspects of liver disease, including abnormal liver function tests, hepatitis, alcohol-related and metabolic-associated steatotic ('fat') liver diseases, autoimmune conditions, liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, as well as Fibroscan interpretation. He performs upper and lower gastrointenstinal endoscopy with advanced therapeutic skills. Dr. Patel's NHS base is the world reknowned Liver Unit at King's College Hospital where he manages patients with chronic liver disease and related complications. Dr. Patel works within the expert hepatology team at Cleveland Clinic London to ensure that patients receive care of the highest quality, delivered in a manner that is both welcoming and professional. He earned his medical degree from Guy's & St Thomas' Medical School and then went on to complete his specialist training in complex hepatology, liver intensive care and transplantation, as well as interventional endoscopy, at King's College Hospital. Dr. Patel conducts translational research in his laboratory at the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology as a Principal Investigator, developing original work from his doctorate thesis. His research group investigates the role of the microbiome, gut inflammation and cell-free DNA pathways in liver and gastrointestinal diseases, to better understand these conditions and to develop and trial new treatments. He has been promoted to Adjunct Reader in Hepatology at King's College London. He is the British Association for Study of the Liver Liver Research Clinical Lead overseeing the research portfolio nationally, and has been awarded funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to run one of the largest preventative liver trials in the U.K., as well as from the Intensive Care Society and Association of Physicians (U.K.). He continues to publish and deliver lectures extensively, contributing knowledge to his field and enjoys collaborating scientifically both within the UK and globally. Vishal is passionate about preventative and holisitic approaches in the delivery of care, ensuring patients are at the centre of decision-making. He provides expertise and guidance around optimising conventional treatments, whilst considering how alternative approaches may also be adopted and intergated to create individualised plans.
