Dr Suhair Shebani

Dr Suhair Shebani is a highly experienced Consultant in fetal, paediatric and congenital heart disease cardiology, with more than 26 years of expertise across the full spectrum of congenital and acquired heart conditions in children and young adults. She provides care from fetal life through childhood and adolescence, continuing into young adulthood, offering continuity and specialist insight at every stage. Dr Shebani has extensive experience in fetal cardiac assessment and performs both basic and advanced echocardiography from birth through to young adulthood. Her expertise includes transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) in children and adults, interpretation of cardiac MRI and CT imaging in congenital heart disease, and analysis of cardiac catheterisation data with specialist advice on interventional management. She is also highly experienced in managing fetal cardiac arrhythmias and in interpreting ECGs, Holter monitoring and exercise testing to guide diagnosis and treatment. Her clinical practice includes the investigation and management of symptoms such as palpitations, syncope and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). She obtained her medical degree in 1983 and began working in paediatrics in 1985. She was awarded a Diploma in Paediatrics and Child Health in 1989 and completed her Membership examinations of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in London in June 1999. Later that year, she was awarded a Master’s degree in Paediatrics and Child Health from the University of Birmingham. In January 2000, Dr Shebani commenced five years of specialist training in paediatric cardiology through the Royal College of Physicians, training at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. In 2004, she undertook further advanced training in Leuven, Belgium, followed by specialist experience at King’s College Hospital in London. She was awarded her Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Congenital Heart Disease in April 2007 and was appointed as a Consultant shortly thereafter.
