About
Dr Shibani Nicum is a Consultant Medical Oncologist, specialising in ovarian and other gynaecological cancers and is based at the Oxford Cancer Centre, in addition to seeing private patients at a variety of hospitals, including in London. Dr Nicum is a graduate of Birmingham Medical School and then completed specialist oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, before taking up her role in Oxford in 2009. She is the Lead Clinician for the Gynaecology Unit, the Oxford Multidisciplinary Team and the Thames Valley Gynaecology Alliance Group.
She is particularly interested in BRCA mutated cancers and the development of new therapies for individualised care. Dr Nicum was awarded a national grant from Cancer Research UK to undertake laboratory-based research and also awarded a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2007. She contributes regularly to peer review journals and speaks at conferences. She is also the Gynaecology Research Lead and has responsibility for translating laboratory advances into benefit for patients. This incudes being Chief Investigator for the CRUK OCTOVA trial, the 6MP BRCA trial and the upcoming ICON9 trial in addition to being principal investigator for other novel agent trials. Dr Nicum is a committee member of the UK National Cancer Research Institute Gynaecological Oncology and the Ovarian Cancer Clinical Studies Groups.
