About Dr Robert T Johnston
A native of Northern Ireland, with undergraduate training in Scotland, Trevor did his Cardiology training in Leicester and Nottingham where he was Lecturer in Cardiology and senior registrar at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist in Truro in 1993 where he set up the invasive cardiology services for Cornwall, and was instrumental in setting up interventional cardiology in 2000 at RCHT. Trevor, with his 25 years as a Consultant Cardiologist in Cornwall, has a wealth of experience of general cardiological problems. He has particular expertise in coronary angioplasty and stenting in the treatment of coronary artery disease and in the management of cardiac arrhythmias , heart failure and inherited cardiac conditions which includes implanting pacemakers, heart failure resynchronisation devices, and defibrillators. He has served two periods as Cardiology specialty lead for Cornwall, and in the most recent was credited with setting up the primary angioplasty service for treatment of acute heart attack in the County. He has sat on many advisory panels, presented at national and international meetings, and as an investigator , principle investigator and outcomes adjudicator participated in multinational clinical trials, being regarded as a key cardiology opinion. He was elected council member of the British Cardiovascular Society in 2012, and has also sat on the the joint cardiology specialty committee of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
