About
Dr Michael Glynn is a Consultant Physician with special interests in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Clinical Nutrition.
Dr Glynn trained at Cambridge and St Mary's and qualified in 1977 and achieving FRCP in 1993. His research into protein metabolism in patients on intravenous feeding gained him an MD from Cambridge in 1995. He has been a Consultant at Barts Health (Royal London Hospital) since 1988 and was also at Newham Hospital until 1996. Following this, he became Clinical Director for Medical and Emergency at the Royal London Hospital from 1999-2008. He has a major interest in Postgraduate Medical Education, and has been a Censor (Senior Officer) of the Royal College of Physicians. From 2013-6, he was the National Clinical Director for GI and Liver Diseases for NHS England. He co-edits Hutchison's Clinical Methods, a fundamental undergraduate medical textbook first published in 1897.
Dr Michael Glynn has been involved in the care of patients within the Acute General Medicine Service from qualification, until 2015. He began Gastroenterology training in 1979 and has been an accredited specialist since 1986 (going the GMC Specialist Register when it was launched in 1996). His main current subspecialty is the Nutrition of seriously ill patients, including Intravenous Feeding, but he continues to practice across the full range of Gastroenterology and Liver problems.
Since the pandemic, Dr Glynn has stopped undertaking Gastroscopy, Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy. If his patients need these tests, a referal will be made to one of the other excellent Consultant Gastroenterologists at the London Independnet Hospital, but overall care will remain with Dr Glynn.
