A leading Consultant Ophthalmologist and Medical Retina Specialist based in Edinburgh, Meg specialises in the management of diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases and retinal vascular disorders. Her NHS practice is based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, Edinburgh University Hospitals. Her private practice is based at Edinburgh Nuffield Hospital and Clarity Hospital, Edinburgh
Education and Training
Meg is highly qualified with an MBBS and DO from India, and FRCOphth
and FRCS during her Ophthalmology training in Glasgow and Edinburgh. She has completed a Medical Retina Fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion
and has over 20 years of experience in Ophthalmology.
She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and the Royal College of Physician & Surgeons, Glasgow.
She is also a member of the European Retina, Macula and Vitreous Society (Euretina), the British & Eire association of Medical Retina Specialists and the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh
Teaching
With an active role in Postgraduate education, Meg is currently an Educational and Clinical Supervisor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and provides teaching, training and assessment for Ophthalmology trainees.
An Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the Edinburgh Medical School, Meg has a keen interest in simulation-based training of laser procedures in Ophthalmology and is a Trainer and Member of the Faculty for the Scottish Laser Simulation Course, which is held annually at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh.
She is an Examiner for the Final FRCS Ophthalmology Examinations, Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow.
Meg also sits on the Central Recruitment and Selection Panel for the National Ophthalmology Training Programme run by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and is on the panel for admission to Edinburgh Medical School
In addition to the above activities, Meg is extensively involved in teaching, training and supporting the development of Primary Care Optometrists in the management of medical retinal conditions through NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the Lothian Optometry Council.
Management and Innovation
Meg is part of the Advisory group on Macula and Medical Retina Service Improvement at NHS Lothian. This involves providing Senior Ophthalmology expertise to the NHS Lothian Realistic Medicine multidisciplinary appraisal of the drugs used within the Macula Service and influencing regional pathway optimisation and safety of patients presenting with macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions and diabetes
associated retinopathy.
She contributes specialist medical retina leadership to the planning and design of the new NHS Eye Hospital at Edinburgh, shaping clinical workflows and future facing service delivery models
She also serves on the National Steering Committee for OCT Biomarkers in Diabetic Macular Edema (Abbvie) and the National Advisory Board for Biomarker & Imaging Standards in Retinal Disease (Roche)
