About Dr Mark Hitchcock
Dr Hitchcock undertook his basic medical training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital London, and graduated in1986 having already completed a BSc in Psychology at University College London in 1982. He then undertook specialist training in Anaesthesia and Pain Management, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1992. He was initially appointed as Director of Day Surgery and Consultant Anaesthetist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, before moving to Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester in 2001, where he was appointed as a Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in pain management, running the NHS Chronic Pain Service until it moved out into the community in 2013. Dr Hitchcock has consulted privately in all aspects of Pain Management for over 20 years, with clinics at the BMI Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester and the Harbour Hospital in Poole. In 2007 Dr Hitchcock was made a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Management at the Royal college of Anaesthetists. Having worked both abroad and in the UK for 3 years, in 2020 Dr Hitchcock returned to the UK permanently, to work again at Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, the BMI Winterbourne Hospital, and the Harbour Hospital in Poole. Dr Hitchcock continues to provide private pain management services and undertakes treatment for a wide variety of pain conditions, pursuing a balanced approach and using both interventional and non-interventional techniques. He works closely with both surgical colleagues and other allied health professionals, including physiotherapists and manual therapists.
