About Dr Konrad Koss

Dr Konrad Koss was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at East Cheshire NHS Trust and Salford Royal Foundation Trust in 2006.  His private practice is based at Spire Regency Hospital Macclesfield, Spire Manchester Hospital in Didsbury, and The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle.  Over the years, he has built extensive experience through both clinical practice and research.  His areas of interest are broad, encompassing general gastroenterology, advanced endoscopy, and hepatology. He has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of reflux disease, including Bravo capsule assessment and treatment with the Stretta procedure.  Dr Koss sees patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal complaints, including reflux, indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, weight loss, irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerance, and rectal bleeding. He manages patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and microscopic colitis, as well as those with liver disease.  He participates in weekly IBD and HPB multidisciplinary meetings and currently serves as Lead for Endoscopy. He is also an examiner for accreditation within the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.  Dr Koss performs the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, endoluminal stenting, dilatations, PEG/PEJ tube insertion, EUS, and ERCP. He has performed more than 10,000 procedures to date.  His patients find him approachable, as he takes time to listen to their concerns, works collaboratively with them, and aims to provide the best available treatments and solutions. He works closely with colleagues in surgery, radiology, gynaecology, and other specialties to ensure the best outcomes for his patients.  He graduated with distinction from the Medical University of Gdańsk, where he completed his basic medical training. He subsequently pursued research at Imperial College London, followed by a PhD and postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford. He completed his gastroenterology training in Birmingham and undertook a short sabbatical in New Zealand.  Alongside his clinical work, he maintains a strong interest in research. He is a principal investigator for multiple gastroenterology trials and has contributed to the latest British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) guidelines on inflammatory bowel disease.  Dr Koss holds memberships with several professional organisations, including the British Society of Gastroenterology and the British Association for the Study of the Liver.     Areas of Interest   • Gastroenterology       • Liver disease   • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy   • Acid reflux and Barrett’s oesophagus and dyspepsia       • Constipation  and Diarrhoea • Inflammatory bowel disease   • Irritable bowel syndrome   • Gastro-oesophageal and bowel cancer     • Food intolerance, malabsorption, nutrition, and coeliac disease
