About Dr Irene Yi
Dr Irene Yi has been an NHS consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry since 1997 and is currently an Honorary Consultant at Springfield University Hospital (Children and Young Persons Community Eating Disorders Service) and a visiting outpatient Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Priory Hospital Roehampton in London. Dr Irene Yi obtained her MD degree from the Institute of Medicine in Rangoon, Burma, and moved to the UK in 1980 where she completed her postgraduate diploma in Psychological Medicine and the diploma in Medical Jurisprudence. Dr Irene Yi provides general child and adolescent mental health services and she also specialises in eating disorders in children and adolescents. She developed one of the first community specialist eating disorders services for children and adolescents in the country in West Surrey and NE Hampshire which then expanded through the whole of the county of Surrey. Her approach in the treatment of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa involves psychiatric and medical monitoring, liaison with paediatricians, psyche-education and support guidance for parents. Dr Yi has been actively involved in numerous research projects studying eating disorders and she co-authored a manual for parent's Psycho-education group for children and adolescents with eating disorders.
