About Dr Ian Nnatu
Dr Nnatu is a highly experienced Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist with over 30 years of medical expertise. He qualified in 1994 and completed postgraduate psychiatric training in London on the Charing Cross and St Mary’s training scheme, gaining Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2002. He later undertook specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, achieving a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT in 2006. In recognition of his contribution to psychiatry, he was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) in 2013. Appointed as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in 2006, Dr Nnatu worked for many years as Lead Consultant on a psychiatric intensive care unit and as Lead Consultant for an ECT clinic, with both services accredited with excellence by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ College Centre for Quality Improvement (CCQI). He also served as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Charing Cross Hospital, where he was a local College Tutor for psychiatric trainees for four years. He retired from the NHS in 2022 to focus on private practice, while continuing as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer and Academic Tutor at Imperial College London. Dr Nnatu has been established in private practice for over a decade. He previously served as Medical Director at Cygnet Hospital Harrow (formerly Bowden House Clinic) for seven years and is currently Lead Consultant for General Psychiatry at Nightingale Hospital. He also holds an MSc in Healthcare Leadership from the NHS Leadership Academy, reflecting his strong interest in clinical leadership and service development. Recognised nationally for his impact, Dr Nnatu was featured for three consecutive years from 2019 in the Powerlist, which celebrates the 100 most influential Black people in the UK. Dr Nnatu is known for delivering holistic, compassionate and high-quality, person-centred care. He has a particular interest in burnout, functional and integrative psychiatry and has he has undertaken additional training with the Institute for Functional Medicine
