Mr Gianluca Bonanomi

Mr Gianluca Bonanomi is a Senior Consultant General Surgeon specialising in upper Gastro-intestinal and bariatric surgery. He is based in London and sees private patients at Lister Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster private wing and Stratum Clinic Wimbledon. He has been a Consultant at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London since 2007 where he has been the Clinical Lead for the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery service. Mr Bonanomi is known for his excellent and patient-focused practice. He prides himself in providing his patients with all the information they need to make informed decisions about their treatment and healthcare. He has received clinical excellence awards in recognition of his clinical work and for his role in the establishment of a recognised multidisciplinary bariatric surgery referral centre. Mr Bonanomi is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. His research interests have included minimally invasive surgical techniques and the use of robotic applications in surgery. He has published over 150 articles in peer reviewed journals as well as book chapters and conference abstracts. Mr Bonanomi sees patients with a number of gastrointestinal conditions, including: gallbladder disease, acid reflux, inguinal hernia, morbid obesity and upper GI conditions. He has specialist interests in the use of minimally invasive keyhole surgical techniques to treat these conditions. He has extensive expertise in bariatric and metabolic surgery, including: endoscopic intragastric balloon placement, laparoscopic gastric banding, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy as well as revisional procedures. Mr Bonanomi completed his medical degree as well as his specialist training in general surgery at the University of Pisa in Italy. He received a medical studies scholarship and attended the selective University College "Scuola Superiore S. Anna" in Pisa. He later undertook further specialist surgical training in centres in the United States, United Kingdom and France. He also completed a research fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and a clinical fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatrics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, USA, where he was appointed as Attending Surgeon and Assistant Professor.
