Paediatrics
About
surgical, respiratory and cardiovascular posts before commencing my paediatric training. My paediatric career took me to a variety of hospitals in South Wales, then
Wellington, New Zealand before finishing as the Lecturer in Child Health at
Cardiff University. I was appointed to my consultant post at Llandough and the Children's Hospital for Wales in 1999. Recently I have been on a sabbatical post to the
allergy department in Toronto Sick Children's Hospital.
In 2018 I was elected as the Officer for Wales for the Royal College of
Paediatrics and Child Health and President of the Welsh Paediatric Society.
Clinically, my experience is with children of all ages; especially those with allergic
diseases. In particular, I care for those with eczema, hayfever and food allergy. I am experienced in sublingual desensitisation (SLIT) treatment for children with troublesome hayfever and allergic rhinitis. I lead the multidisciplinary children's allergy service in Cardiff.
My ongoing, wide ranging research has been into allergic diseases, nutrition,
coeliac disease, dental care and medication safety.
Throughout my career I have been committed to teaching and won the "Excellence in
Teaching Award" from Cardiff University after nominations by medical
students. In 2020, two of my students won prizes for their supervised projects
under my guidance.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
