About Dr Birgit Pees
Dr Birgit Pees has worked as a Consultant Dermatologist since 2003 and at University Southampton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) since 2008. She held the position of clinical lead for dermatology in Southampton for five years and played a pivotal role in overseeing major service developments for Dermatology at UHS. She also sees private patients at Spire Southampton Hospital and on request per video consultation or at variable consultation rooms. Dr Pees earned her medical degree from the University of Giessen, Germany, in 1989. She holds the German specialisation for Dermatology and Venereology (2003- Goettingen University) and a postgraduate Diploma in Allergy from the University of Southampton and achieved her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT-UK) in 2008. She has extensive expertise in contact allergy/patch testing and diagnosing/treating various forms of dermatitis and hand eczema. Her main field of work is skin cancer and as a proficient dermoscopist she is excelling in the diagnosis of skin cancers, abnormal moles, melanoma, and general dermatology. Throughout her career, Dr Pees has been dedicated to teaching skin cancer recognition skills on a local and national level. She offers comprehensive services including full body skin checks, mole skin screening, diagnostic biopsies, and excisions. Dr Pees is committed to enhancing the screening process for skin cancer through collaboration with local GPs and improving teaching and training in dermatology for healthcare professionals across all levels. She actively participates in the education of students, GPs, junior doctors, and nurses at Southampton University Hospital Trust (SUHT) and in primary care settings.
