Dr Andrew Skyrme-Jones qualified
from the University of Bristol Medical School in 1989. During his time at
Bristol University, he was elected President of the Medical Student Society in
1988. In pursuit of his chosen career in Cardiology he passed the relevant
examinations to become a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1993.
Cardiology training took him to Cardiff and Oxford before moving to Melbourne, Australia
to undertake Cardiovascular research. His three years of research resulted in
the highest award from the Cardiac Society of Australia, the Ralph Reader Prize.
In addition, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2000 from Monash University
Melbourne.
On return to the UK Dr Skyrme-Jones
finished his Cardiology training at St Thomas’ Hospital London, from where he
was appointed as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in 2002.
During over 20 years as a
consultant, Dr Skyrme-Jones led the Cardiology team for a period of 10 years. Dr
Skyrme-Jones continues to work full time within the NHS as well as running a
very busy large private practice.
