About Prof Dev Datta
Professor Dev Datta is a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine at Spire Cardiff Hospital, also practicing in the NHS at University Hospital Llandough in Penarth. Prof Datta completed his primary medical degree at the University of Wales in 1997, followed by his training in cardiology and general medicine in Wales and Edinburgh until 2006. During this time he became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and completed a 2-year research fellowship with the British Heart Foundation at Cardiff University. In 2005, he was awarded his MD by the University of Wales for his research surrounding the biochemistry of blood vessel function in heart disease and diabetes. Prof Datta became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2009 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2015. Prof Datta has specialist expertise in managing patients with vitamin & nutrient deficiencies, high cholesterol and other blood fats, risk factors for heart disease including hypertension and stroke and patients with a strong family history of blood vessel disease. At Spire Cardiff Hospital, he has run a weight management service since 2013. In addition to his clinical work, Prof Datta is the medical lead for the Wales Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Service and the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Weight Management Service. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of South Wales where is is the course director for the MSc Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine degree.
